Fresh in from iO:
“Hi there friends,
I’m writing to let you know that the group show I am curating/participating in, is opening next week! I am proud to present to you, ‘Climb in the Back Window’:
“It’s not the equipment, it’s the artist.”
I pulled together an international amalgam of artists, with a street background of some kind, and asked a few of them to create site specific installations. The aim was to be raw, playful, un-pretentious, and inspiring, especially to those who lack the cash to buy art and supplies. With that in mind, we’re showing a set of photos shot on disposable cameras, three of the artists will be painting straight on the walls, and all the work has been priced for a ‘recession special’.
The show features the work of**:
Anthony Lister
Cheryl Dunn
Ricky Powell
Skullphone
Ale Zuek
Curtis Kulig
Luiza Sa (of CSS renown)
Augustine Kofie
Erik Otto
Various and Gould
..and myself.
Copies of Cheryl Dunn’s book “Some Kinda Vocation”, (with included DVD of films), as well as signed, numbered prints from Erik Otto will be on marked-down sale on opening night.
I have also hand-screened t-shirts and posters priced that are extra affordable! So all you broke punks get your tushies to the gallery (or my website in a few days).
PLUS!
My dearest homies from Good Peoples/Meanred productions have partnered with Darling Days and Emily Rabbit, to throw a sick after party for us, downstairs at Kung Fu Necktie, featuring none other than Chris Devlin (Spank Rock/Devlin & Darko) and Roofeeo (The Death Set).
Climb in the back window
Opening extravaganza – May 6th
Art opening from 7-10pm
Shadow’s Space and Kung Fu Necktie
1248-50 N. Front St
Philadelphia, PA
**You can read more about the artists and find links to their sites here:
www.darlingdays.com
Check back after the opening for work for sale online.”

In a rare opportunity, we caught up with Mr. Baseman in between his world travels, artistic exploration, and endeavors as one of the contemporary art movement’s leaders, to talk with us about his artwork and the inspiration for his upcoming showstopper. And by ‘showstopper,’ we mean ‘totally epic gallery opening gala.’ Without further ado, read Part 1 of our interview with Gary Baseman in a series of 3 to be published every day up to the opening of La Noche de la Fusion. Lousville, Kentucky-based artist Kathleen Lolley is a woman both intrigued by, and steeped in, fantasy. Her debut Los Angeles solo exhibition, …Away From The Things Of Man opens next Friday, May 8th at Thinkspace and after taking a look at her newest works for the show, we had more than a few questions for this artist so obviously intrigued by and in awe of the animal kingdom. Kathleen creates vignettes of an alternate universe where beasts live harmoniously and characters often find themselves in the woods performing secret rituals of transformation. Autobiographical or journey of discovery? You be the judge and read our 20 Questions with Kathleen Lolley here…
